Meccano Challenge 2011
The competition this year is a weightlifting contest with a difference. Your challenge is to build a machine using a single Meccano clockwork motor to lift a house brick: the machine that lifts the brick the furthest will be the winner. At present we anticipate that the brick will begin on the floor but your machine may be placed on a table if you wish. However, you will have to ensure that your device doesn’t topple over while in action: no steadying it with your hands!
Peter Goddard will be supplying the brick, and says it weighs approximately five pounds and will have cord attached for Meccano hooks to engage. As usual, machines must be made of genuine Meccano parts or replica parts with the same essential physical characteristics, except for the cord or chain used to lift it. You can use any official Meccano clockwork motor you like, but not more than one.
The Founder's Trophy will be awarded to the winner at our November meeting, along with a bottle of fine Australian wine from the Newsletter Editor’s private stocks.
