3-Rail Gauge 1 Garratt Locomotive

A Garratt locomotive is articulated in three parts; the boiler is mounted on the centre frame and two steam engines are mounted on separate frames, one on each end of the boiler.  Articulation permits larger locomotives to negotiate curves and lighter rails than large rigid-framed locomotives.

Garratt designs could double the power of the largest conventional locomotives, reducing the need on some lines for multiple locomotives and crews.

This freelance model is compact yet beautifully detailed, and uses only standard Meccano parts.

Illustrated throughout with IsoMec drawings.
